Findings along the way, and choices made

  • I chose the contemporary style of Fairly Odd Parents for Alice, as it seemed the most adaptable.
  • I prefer the longer legs, opposed to the short undefined ones. It makes the character look older than 5. Also it just looks better as it is not short and stumpy. Any dress looks better with long legs.
  • The hair can make the character look older, depending on the style. which i found strange, as i tried to keep the hairstyles pretty simple.
  • The face arrangement can make her look younger (and more adorable) the lower it is on her face. Also a simple act of making the pupils bigger makes her seem younger.
  • Deciding on the dress was hard. I wanted the time period to look correct, but to have a simple dress that also reflects her personality. I chose the 'party' dress as it looks frilly and girly (which corresponds to the childhood naivety and fantasies of girls).
  • I couldn't make the character too detailed as there is not much room for detail in this character type. So i made the clothing and hair as simple as i could.
  • Overall, i feel that this hows that i can adapt my drawing style to a contemporary design. I can adapt a character into a chosen style. Also, that personality can shine through, however this can be highly dependable on the posing and animation.
