low poly render

Here's a mock up of the logo. i want to keep it as close as possible to the original ATRG one as possible. I've got blue glass on the yarn and gold foil on the chip. The blue glass works, however the foil looks very strange. I will have to change the relief pattern to a circuit board picture.

What i would really like to do, is move the yarn in closer around the chip like in this picture.

 I tried scaling the yarn down (as you can see in the picture below), however it horribly distorts the yarn. I will have to find other ways to achieve this 'look'.
