Illustrations of Alice

Here are some more modern illustrations of Alice:

This style makes her look quite delicate and curious. The delicacy is felt from the circular smooth features, almost like a china doll.

This style strangely makes her seem a bit older, in the face and body shape. She looks quite bewildered, which is understandable for wonderland. And I really find the short hair strange (even though oi depicted alice like so in one of my sketches).

This one i recognised as Chris Riddell, one of my favourite Illustrators. However i feel that his style is not appropriate for Alice. Chris Riddell makes Alice seem sophisticated and in control in this image. Alice is neither of these things in the story. Unfortunately it does not suit her personality.

This style is very flat and doesn't really hold much in it. Alice seems mildly troubled.

Now this Illustration is very whimsical and free, which i feel relates to the freedom of the storyline. This is the same illustrator for the 'Alice through the looking glass' at the top. Alice looks innocent and curious, just the way she should. I like the long spindly arms, it reminds me of Olive Oyl.
