Designing James was easier as I was basing it solely on
Pocoyo. However there were some things that I decided to change. The main thing
I changed was his visual age. James is older than Pocoyo as I still wanted him
to appeal to the older range in the 4-10 yrs. The 10 yrs. would not be highly
interested in a childish programme. His size and age had to appeal to the whole
target market.
I attempted to keep the eyes like Pocoyo’s. This was a small
puzzle for me as Pocoyo’s eyes seem to a texture (they look painted on). I was
not sure how to replicate that, so I tried thin cylinders and rounded boxes for
the eyes. I found the rounded boxes much more malleable. I didn’t want to
create realistic eyes as they would detract to far from Pocoyo’s style.
